My Thoughts

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2015-16 school year at Mar Vista Elementary School for Advanced Studies.  The faculty, staff, and I are working diligently and collaboratively to provide the best instruction, enrichment, and learning environment for our students.  We have been busy the past year learning about and implementing the new Common Core State Standards, refining our teaching practice, and integrating technology into the curriculum.  At Mar Vista, our goal is to educate the whole child; supporting the child’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth.

We realize this goal by providing an exceptional curriculum taught by a stellar faculty and staff, as well as offering our students classes in visual art, music, dance, theater, computer, science lab, enrichment physical education, as well weekly visits to our school library.  These fabulous classes taught by expert teachers and instructors are only available through the generous donations of our parents and community members.  These contributions help us to improve student learning and achievement.

Additionally, our parents’ participation and numerous hours volunteering in classrooms, at school events, and with parent organizations – Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Mar Vista School Enrichment Group (MVSEG), English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), School Site Council (SSC), and School Committees – help us to create an excellent learning environment for our students, making our school the place to be!  Mar Vista thrives on the continued partnership between the staff, parents, community members, and students.  I have no doubt that this school year will be amazing!
